These are the reasons why a situation where people are passive and docile despite their oppr ession and exploitation exists. Economic wealth is proportionate to political power and social influence. As portrayed in both short stories, economic status is the basis for the clout that one yields over others in the community, a premise that is not only valid in the historical setting in Premchandââ¬â¢s and Tagoreââ¬â¢s works but is also true for the rest of the modern world.
